The first thing people notice about Grace is the size of the church. It can't seat many over 150. There are three seating sections that face each other and the altar. It is a warm and cozy church.
The second thing people notice is that people at Grace like to participate in the holy. We gather in common prayer. We reach out to those in need in our community. We get to know one another and help each other along the Way.
Grace Episcopal Church is a place for inquisitive people on a spiritual search. We have the sign post of “one way” on our website because we represent one way of finding God in your life. The worship services at Grace are one way of worshipping God through Jesus Christ. Not the only way, but one way.
We offer a rich liturgical tradition – which means we proclaim the Good News through hearing passages from the Bible with a sermon AND we share together in communion. This liturgical tradition is offered weekly. Although it is one of the oldest forms of worship in the Christian tradition, the weekly message speaks to the heart of what life is like, and what life is about, in San Marcos in 2010.
Grace has an environment that is more than just ‘kid-friendly’. The culture of Grace Episcopal Church is one that takes seriously Jesus’ rebuke to His disciples when they were trying to keep children away from Him. Jesus said, “Don't push these children away. Don't ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God's kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you'll never get in."* At Grace, we incorporate children into worship, education, and community building.
We also believe that Sunday School is not limited to children. We offer adult education so we to can accept God’s kingdom as a child does.
And now for a little history. The church building of Grace was built in the 1880’s. It was home for a Methodist Church and a Presbyterian Church congregation. It was moved to 1020 Rose Ranch Road in the early 1980’s and has been an Episcopal Church since. The building, like the great body of Christ believers, shows liturgical diversity with Jesus Christ at the core.
