I was reminded about a book on my shelf by the Rev’d Michael Battle on Archbishop Tutu called Reconciliation, in which he outlines Tutu’s faith and theology.
No doubt you have already heard me say – probably more than once – how glad I am that God said to us, “Where two or three or more are gathered, I will be there also.”
Michael Battle quotes Bp. Tutu on the notion of just a few of us in church. . .
“It does not matter that the church is not full, that there are but one or two parishioners present. For you are never alone! The whole church of God is present with you at every celebration because Christ the Lamb of God is present and where Christ is, the Church is present also.
The church is not empty, for if our eyes could be opened we should see it filled to overflowing with angels and archangels and the cloud of witnesses surrounding us.”
No doubt we would wish others would join us. We do have so many blessings to share. But in Christ there is always hope.
And for that we can be so grateful.
