When I first started looking for a church, I wanted to find one that was involved in service to the
community; not just inside the church walls but getting out there and helping where it was needed. Grace does an excellent job with outreach already but how can we do more and grow further? I hope to incorporate the Youth into more service-oriented activities over the coming year.
I would love to do as the Church of the Good Shepherd in Hemet did recently and host a community
dinner for our neighbors in close proximity to the church to survey them to find out what the needs of the community are and start a program to address those. Be it a monthly or weekly neighborhood meal, after school help with homework or whatever that need turns out to be. This would take help from the greater congregation, not just myself or the youth but I am confident that we have many service-minded individuals at Grace that may be looking for a way to reach out and would like to help with this.
I also want to open our kids’ eyes to the world around them, especially outside of their comfort zone. I really want to take them down to the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach for one of the community meals to break bread with our homeless brothers and sisters, especially the homeless youth.
I have many more ideas and am super excited about the coming months! I’m just sorry that I probably won’t be able to do EVERYTHING!
