Each season of the Church year has its own color to help us as we live and journey through each year of our lives with Christ.
I have, over time, been amused by the calendars – plural – that we use. Our Church is on a calendar fiscal year –January through December. Our Church follows a liturgical calendar that begins with Advent, around December 1st each year. And, our Church really follows an academic year with activities slowing down in June and picking up in September.
So here are the Seasons:
Lent (Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday)- Purple
Holy Week- Red
The Day of Pentecost- Red
The Season after Pentecost- Green
As you might expect red and white are celebratory colors, purple is for the more penitential times and green for other seasons.
On this last Sunday of Advent you are looking at purple. And day after tomorrow… well yes, a white and Blessed Christmas.
