This particular Sunday, it was empty and it occurred to me that it was just as empty as some folk’s cupboards right here in North County.
There will be some this winter that will have to choose things to NOT purchase. These are the kinds of things some will have to decide on; heating oil, medicine, rent, or food. For those who have to make these difficult decisions, never will they be able to choose all of the above.
This morning on the radio the business news reported that spending on many things is down because of the cost of oil, gas, and electricity. We are all affected, but I know we are more fortunate than so many.
We need to be sure that the basket is as full as it can be, as it is carried down the aisle filled with non-perishable foodstuffs as part of our Sunday offering – if two people had to carry it that would be even better.
On Sunday morning, or on any day that you might be here in the church, think to bring some item for the basket.
This way those who have to choose between rent, heat, medicine, and food – will have some help and something in their cupboards to eat.
