Guidelines for Persons who are Divorced

• Persons who are divorced may remarry in the Episcopal Church. However certain restrictions apply.
• Either the bride or groom must be a member of Grace Church San Marcos.
• The couple must indicate their intent to maintain a loving Christian marriage as understood by this church and indicated in the Declaration of Intent.
• The divorce must be final for at least one year prior to re-marriage.
• If children are involved the non-custodial party must be fulfilling their moral and financial obligations to the children for their care.
• An official copy of the divorce decree must be turned into the officiating priest at least two months prior to the marriage.
• The officiating priest must ascertain that the partner of the divorced person was in no way a party to the divorce.
• The officiating priest must write to the bishop for official permission to perform the wedding service. (Note: that in cases of only one divorce this is usually not a difficulty with more than one divorce it becomes more complicated).
