The Women of Grace
The women's fellowship at Grace Church began immediately following the first Faith Alive weekend at Grace in October 1993. It was part of the follow-up to the weekend, as we recognized a need for the women to come together on a regular basis for fellowship. A monthly, potluck breakfast meeting was started and a spiritual message and discussion time was offered at each one. Out of the monthly meetings came the first women's retreat in May 1994 at Palomar Christian Conference Center, the following year at Mission San Luis Rey and a year later at Casa Vina de Lestonnac in Temecula. Suzanne Brendis, Meg Jepsen, and Connie Crossley organized the first retreat, and after that a retreat committee planned and presented subsequent retreats.
Our name
The Women of Grace acknowledges that all that we have and all that we can ever be is by the Grace of our Lord and that we are women. The name was first coined by Ann Judge, then church secretary.
As a group ministry, The Women of Grace has been lead by different women; each bringing her own particular gifts and leadership style in loving service to other women. Our membership continues to be open to any and all females who have reached age of majority regardless of church or religious affiliation.
Our mission
- Strengthen the bonds of friendship
- Develop projects and raise funds for charity
- Promote and encourage the talents of each woman
In the past we have paid for part of the materials used to make the wall hangings in the church, have given several well-attended teas, have organized craft bazaars and shared countless meals and conversation.
Some of our works currently in progress are:
- Grace Bags -- small pretty bags filled with sweet soaps, lotions and candles to be given to mothers of newborns in special circumstance.
- The Women Resource Center -- extending our hands and treasury to the domestic violence shelter
- Planning and giving a high Tea
- Organizing a craft and homemade baked good and food bazaar
