Vida Joven,an institution of the diocese and one of our parish’s ministry partners, provides funding and other support for orphaned and migrant children in Baja, Mexico. On Sunday, June 8, Beth Beall—Executive Director of the Vida Joven Foundation—will preach at both the 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. services.

On Tuesday, June 10, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Coach House. Bring your favorite international dish to share and be prepared to share a little about the history and origins of the dish with the group. Safe Church Safe Communities” training is required by the Episcopal Church every three years. In our commitment to support as many people as possible in accessing the training, we have begun offering in-person training in addition to the training offered online. Safe Church, Safe Communities training is required for all volunteer and employment positions throughout the diocese.

This year we will join with Trinity Episcopal Church, Escondido, for “March with God in the Light” June 16–20, 9 a.m. – noon. All children entering grades 1 – 6 are invited. Scholarships will cover the fee. Our own Janet Marseilles will volunteer to provide a familiar face. Please call or email the office by June 12th if your children will be able to attend, and if carpooling is needed.  

There will be a celebration of Life for Jim Valenti on Saturday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace.

The celebration will start with a Eucharist on June 21 at 4:00 p.m., commemorating the legacy of liberation that was a long-time coming, and yet still remains a call to which we aspire as Christians. Then, join in a time of food and fellowship with a potluck, games, and a dance party meant to cultivate the community connections and joy necessary to continue the work of resistance and reconciliation

June is National Gun Safety Awareness Month. The EDSD Gun Safety Working Group invites congregations to designate one Sunday in June as "Wear Orange Sunday" to honor survivors of gun violence, as well as the 41,000 Americans killed and 31,000 injured with guns last year.

Why Orange? On January 2013, Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old high school student from the south side of Chicago, was shot and killed. Hadiya’s friends asked their classmates to commemorate Hadiya’s life – and the lives of hundreds claimed by Chicago’s gun violence each year – by wearing orange. They chose orange because hunters wear the color in the woods to protect themselves and others. Now, many in the gun violence prevention community choose to wear orange in memory of those we have lost, and as a symbol of standing against gun violence and in favor of reasonable gun sale and ownership regulations.
