San Diego Food Bank's Summer Food Drive

During the summer months, our local Food Bank sees a significant increase in need. When school is out, children who depend on free or reduced-price school meals — often breakfast and lunch — no longer have that safety net, and their families must stretch already tight budgets to make up the difference. At the same time, donations and awareness tend to drop during the summer compared to the holiday season. 


There are many ways to donate:

  1. Stop by any of the 70+ Albertsons, Vons, or Pavilions supermarkets in San Diego County and donate a $5 Hunger Bag during checkout. Every bag directs essential pantry staples to local neighbors in need. Just tell your cashier at checkout, and your donation will be added to your total.
  2. Bring food to church. Go here for a list of needed items. Please, no open packages or glass. (You may put glass items in our free food pantry outside of the Coach House.) The food bank also takes baby & adult diapers.
  3. Give Online. Every $1 you give helps provide two nutritious meals to a neighbor in need. Your donation makes an immediate impact and supports our hunger-relief efforts all summer long.

FEEDING MINISTRIES AT INTERFAITH COMMUNITY SERVICES IN ESCONDIDO

                                                                                                                       

OCCASIONAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: SHIFTS ONLY 1.5 to 2.5 HOURS!

Interfaith meets the basic needs of vulnerable and low-income people in North County by connecting them with nutritional assistance and comprehensive social services to achieve healthy, thriving lives. Last year, Interfaith helped by providing over 330,000 meals for hungry children, families, individuals, and the homeless.


Recuperative Care at Turk Center — Sunday Dinner

Provides a program dedicated to helping men, women, and veterans get back on their feet as they focus on their well-being and self-sufficiency. Residents are working towards personal goals related to recovery, wellness, employment, housing, and life skills.


Needs: Two to four volunteers serve dinner to approximately 80 residents on the 4th and 5th Sundays each month from approximately 4:15 p.m to 5:30 p.m.

Recovery & Wellness Center — Sunday Dinner

Provides a safe place for homeless and low-income individuals to detox from drug & alcohol abuse and enter long-term residential and outpatient recovery. The Center provides medically monitored detox for short-term recovery, an intensive 90-day resident recovery program, and aftercare services.


Needs: Two chef’s aides help with food prep for future meals and then serve dinner to approximately 60 residents on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month

We have continued to support North County Food Bank through 2022. Approximately 12 full barrels of food have been collected and picked up by North County Food Bank for distribution.

Wrapped In Love

A long tradition at Grace is to provide blankets, jackets, hats, scarves, etc. to the Alpha Project which distributes these items to people who are not able to find beds in the shelters so they have some comfort on these cold nights.


Vida Joven de Mexico

Grace continues to support this orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico through donated items, funds, etc.

Interfaith Community Services Sack Lunches

Every year Grace parishioners prepare sack lunches for the Interfaith facility in Escondido. These lunches allow clients of Interfaith who are in need to collect a nutritious “To Go” lunch.
