St. Bartholomew’s presents “Chess” the musical, beginning May 30. Written in 1984 by ABBA songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice, Chess tells a story of love and political intrigue, set against the background of the Cold War in the late 1970s/early 1980s, in which superpowers attempt to manipulate an international chess championship.

The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego is pleased to offer a Godly Play Core Training Retreat on May 30, 31, and June 1, 2025 at Christ Church Coronado. This retreat will allow congregations the opportunity to refresh their training and to bring new storytellers and door holders into the fold as they complete their program year and look forward toward Fall.

Join All Saint’s in Vista for A Case for Love, a documentary inspired by Bishop Michael Curry’s message of healing through unselfish love. We’ll meet in the sanctuary and watch one segment weekly beginning in May, followed by refreshments and discussion in the Parish Hall.

You’ve heard of The Bible for Dummies. Now, introducing The Bible … for Smarties! A chance to explore and learn about the Bible without dumbing it down. Going beyond your typical Bible Study, this seminar will be a university-level academic class focused on Nurturing Students towards a Nuanced, Critical Interpretation and Sophisticated Understanding of the Texts of the Bible. 

Dr. David Moseley will be the Instructor for this online Course about The Parables of Jesus in the Gospels. These strange beguiling stories are frequently misunderstood and mischaracterized, because we are liable to misunderstand the specific genre of literature and rhetoric that they belong to (they are not like Aesop’s Fables, easily reducible to a simple moral or lesson); and because too often the subversive and challenging messages of the parables have been domesticated and sanitized; and because we live in the 21st century in a democratic, affluent, relatively peaceful world, surrounded by complex technology … which is about as different a cultural context as can be imagined compared to the ancient Jewish world that Jesus and his followers belonged to as part of the Roman imperial occupation.

On Sunday, June 8, Beth Beall—Executive Director of the Vida Joven Foundation—will preach at both the 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. services.

Safe Church Safe Communities” training is required by the Episcopal Church every three years. In our commitment to support as many people as possible in accessing the training, we have begun offering in-person training in addition to the training offered online. Safe Church, Safe Communities training is required for all volunteer and employment positions throughout the diocese.

June is National Gun Safety Awareness Month. The EDSD Gun Safety Working Group invites congregations to designate one Sunday in June as "Wear Orange Sunday" to honor survivors of gun violence, as well as the 41,000 Americans killed and 31,000 injured with guns last year.

Why Orange? On January 2013, Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old high school student from the south side of Chicago, was shot and killed. Hadiya’s friends asked their classmates to commemorate Hadiya’s life – and the lives of hundreds claimed by Chicago’s gun violence each year – by wearing orange. They chose orange because hunters wear the color in the woods to protect themselves and others. Now, many in the gun violence prevention community choose to wear orange in memory of those we have lost, and as a symbol of standing against gun violence and in favor of reasonable gun sale and ownership regulations.
